Casting Lessons

As mentioned in other parts of this site, casting lessons are available. If you book a fishing experience that includes the boat, the lessons are included. Or if you book, the stream-side fishing, the lessons are free. But if you are completely new to fly fishing, why not book a casting lesson plus mini fishing experience for 3 hours. The cost for the 3-hour session is $100 (Canadian funds).

3-hour lessons and mini-fishing experience: We will start with the basics and, with practice, you should be able to cast a floating, sink tip or sinking line with enough expertise to entice a trout or salmon to bite! The lessons are given in my back yard. I have a variety of rods with compatible lines and reels. A 3-weight setup is ideal for learning how to catch trout with a dry fly, stonefly or chironomid. You then get to try a number 5, followed by number 7 and number 8 rods. Printed material is supplied for you to take home for practising. After the lessons in the back yard, we drive to a nearby stream to try out the techniques.

Casting is a very gratifying experience. Once you lay that fly out there, and a fish takes it, you know you are in for an exciting time!

Playing the Fish

As well as casting, there is an art to playing the fish, especially the big salmon we catch in the autumn. Previous customers made use of the tips and techniques we have supplied when playing a 20 pound chum or coho salmon. With small trout, there is a way of playing the fish without doing permanent damage. Safe release tips are given.
