As we move through the fishing season (March to November), the insect world produces a continuous menu of food for trout. The most common insect is the chironomid. They are found in the lakes most of the season, especially when we have had a mild winter.
We use the following patterns along with the recommended time of year
black chironomid (size 16-18) in small lakes like Whonnock and Rolley, March until Ocotber
Silver water boatman in the small lakes (MArch/April and then again in the mid autumn months)
Adams dry fly (size 14-22) in the Alouette River (May to September)
Gray may fly (size 16-22) in the Alouette (May to September)
